Many more beaches on the far east end and on the west end past were the seawall ends.  We only use these beaches on occasion as a change of pace. These are more natural beaches which are better if you are looking for sea shells. No bathrooms unless you go to one of the pocket parks.

The beaches along the seawall have been rebuilt in several places after Ike and are pretty good. Go down 14th to the seawall and turn right. You can walk to the beach at 14th and Seawall as long as you are not carrying a lot of stuff.  It is only 3 city blocks or about 400 or 500 yards.  There are several good beaches from 14th to 61st. Parking is free along the seawall but you will need to get an early start (or get lucky) to find a spot to park on weekends. Some beaches rent chairs and umbrellas but few have bathrooms. We usually use these beaches in the late evening after the crowds die down.

Our Favorite

Porretto Beach is one you can drive down on the beach and park on for $7 a day. Entry is at 10th and seawall at the light. Get an early start (or get lucky) and park on the seawall for free.  Nearby jetties for fishing. McDonalds and Jack in the Box are within walking distance. You have an option of renting chairs and umbrellas (about $15 or $20). To get there go down 14th to seawall. Turn left on the seawall.  Go 4 city blocks to the light at 10th and turn right. There is a temporary ramp to drive down on the beach. If you walk make sure you cross at the lights. (14th or 10th).  This is our favorite beach because it is close, clean, and has parking / walking options.  Downside – closest bathroom is Stewart Beach or Jack in the Box. If this is a problem – suggestion – park as far as you can down toward Stewart Beach. Walk toward Steward Beach to set up.  Stewart Beach bathrooms are doable from there. Of course, there is always the Gulf of Mexico.

Stewart Beach – Broadway and Seawall

Stewart Beach is one that you can drive down on the beach and park on for $8 a day. Has a souvenir shop (Wings), a few places to eat, bathrooms, and showers. McDonalds is very close. You even have an option of renting chairs and such. To get there – 14th to Seawall. Turn left on the seawall.  About ½  to ¾ mile. Good beach.  Best time to get there to beat the crowds on weekends is 9:30 am to 10:30 am
